Program Description:

Belmont in Italy  


Italy His of Sport


This program offers students a unique opportunity to examine the history and psychology of sport in Italy firsthand. While traveling through various cities, students will visit the birthplace of various sports as well as several important sport stadiums to showcase the historical connections between sport and Italian culture. Students will also examine the psychological aspects of Italian sport by meeting with coaches, psychologists, and athletes. Finally, students will be provided time to explore the cities to enhance the cultural experience of the trip.

All courses will satisfy either Belmont requirements in the Gen Ed core or the specified major. You must participate in at least one course offered on the program. You should consult individual program faculty to see how online options can fit into your study abroad program.
  • PSY 2950, PSY 4950, or HON 2950: Sport Psychology
    • The course explores the role of psychology in modern sport including the implications for performance.
    • Course counts as BELL CORE non-lab science (2950) (3 hrs.), OR
    • Course counts as BELL CORE lab science (4950) (4 hrs.), OR
    • Course counts as HON Science Analytics (2310) (3 hrs.)
    • Course counts as a Sport Administration (BA or BS) major or minor elective
    • Course counts as a Psychology major or minor elective

  • SAM 2950: History of Sport
    • The course explores the connections of sport to Italian history and    culture, specifically focusing on the origins and implications of soccer.
    • Course counts as BELL CORE social science (3 hrs.)
    • Course counts as a Sport Administration (BA or BS) major or minor elective

ENG 3950: Third Year Writing (English 3010; satisfies BELL CORE requirement)
REL 3950: Religion Jr. Cornerstone (Path A or B; satisfies BELL CORE requirement)
INB 3950: (satisfies BBA Core Business requirement for International Business 3300)


1. Program Fee: $5500: 
This fee will include hotels, breakfast, 3 group meals, transportation within Italy, and all activities,
lectures, and tours.

Costs not covered by the program fee include: Tuition, airfare to and from Italy, some meals, and personal expenses.

2. Belmont Tuition
Tuition is charged at the special study abroad tuition rate of 2/3 off the cost of normal Maymester tuition. For every 3 hours of study abroad credit you register for, you pay for only one hour.  

Program Deposit: $500 due at time of acceptance
